Construction Details of Shri Ram Temple

On 9th November 2019, the Supreme Court of India gave a verdict in the favor of construction of Shri Ram Temple on the disputed land and Ordered the Government of India to create a trust to build the Temple and form a Board of Trustees within three months. Following the orders of the Supreme Court, Government formed a trust, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi personally announced the trust’s formation in the Lok Sabha on 5th February 2020. The trust is named as Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.

Construction of Shri Ram Temple:

Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra's trust has decided to name the temple as Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir. In India two architectural styles are dominant for the construction of Temples, in Northern regions Nagar Style is used and in Southern regions, Dravid style of Architecture is used for the construction of temples. Shri Ram Temple will be made using Nagar style architecture.

The design of the Temple is made by Shri Chandrakant Sompura. Sompura family has constructed 131 Temples across the world. Gujarat’s Somnath temple and Mathura Temple is made by Chandrakant Sompura’s father Shri Prabhakar Sompura and London’s Akshar Purushottam Swami Narayan Temple is made by Shri Chandrakant Sompura himself.

The model of Shri Ram Temple proposed by Vishwa Hindu Parishad was designed by Chandrakant Sompura on the instructions of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Leader Shri Ashok Singhal in 1987. Now Chandrakant Sompura has approved the old design. However, some changes will be implemented in the old design the changes are mentioned later in this article. Chandrakant Sompura’s sons, Ashish Sompura and Nikhil Sompura will be helping him in the design and construction of Lord Shri Ram Temple. Contract of making the temple is handed over to National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) India Limited while Larsen and Toubro (L&T) will be working under NBCC to complete the construction.

The common question that arises in everyone’s mind is what will be the cost of construction?

The previous plan had an approximate cost of 100 Crores. However, since the dimensions of the temple are increased and few changes are planned the cost of Construction may be increased. The other condition governing the cost of construction of Shri Ram Temple is time for completion of the Project. If the pace of construction will be increased then cost will be increasing too.

Another question that arises is what will be the source of such an enormous amount?

First of all, in 1985 when Vishwa Hindu Parishad established Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas (translates: Shri Ram Birthplace trust), it collected donations from the pilgrims throughout the nation in which they asked for financial help from the devotees. Pilgrims used to give an amount of 1.25 Rupees to 10 Rupees as per their convenience and abilities. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas also gave a slogan for the collection of donation which goes as “Sawa Rupaiya de de bhaiya Ram Shila Ke Naam ka, Ram ka Ghar mein lag jaayega Patthar tere Naam ka" which means "Please give a contribution of 1.25 Rupees in the name of a Brick of Shri Ram's home, so that brick in your name will be placed in Lord Shri Ram's home." After the completion of donation, an amount of 30 Crore was collected by Nyas. However, 28 Crore is already used in the carving of stones. The remaining amount of 2 Crore was given to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra when a bank account was created in April month. Moreover, Patna's Mahaveer Temple trust has pledged to donate 10 Crore of which 2 Crore is already given to the trust. Moreover, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi  Teerth Kshetra Trust will be asking 10 Crore peoples for their contribution.
